Survival and Austere Medicine Training
Re-Defining Golden Hour
Healthcare readiness and austere medicine training is the integration of professionally developed and mastered emergency medical skills with the cognitive preparedness to meet the psychological, social, and environmental challenges while performing treatment in these austere environments. At MTAC, we teach a comprehensive approach to austere medicine that includes clinical readiness, operational readiness, physical readiness, and emotional readiness to prepare you for any emergency treatment situation you may encounter.
MTAC believes that if we take the medical fight to the patient; training and educating medical providers, first responders, and the community at large to understand simple steps for early intervention. The military researchers have really embraced the data and made life saving recommendations for TCCC, whole blood etc. Tactical medical providers that have been outside the wire understand. So, it is time to form a voice that the Golden Hour needs redefining.
At MTAC, we are re-defining “golden hour.”
We offer austere tactical training in the form of courses, guides and much more. Many of courses are eligible for CME through our partner, the Wilderness Medical Society. Our featured and upcoming courses are listed below. For a full list of our courses, click here on Courses.

We’re Different!
When have you bunked on a Coast Guard cutter or a Navy ship to learn Maritime Medicine? Have you been diving on the premier wrecks of the Florida Keys to understand the Physics and Physiology of Diving at Depth? When you apply a holistic approach to emergency medical training, you are simply better prepared. You apply your treatment with a diving mask on and you learn how to get a body bigger than yourself out of the water so you can administer further treatment. This is why we are different and better. We are led by Dr. Matthew Welder. Dr. Welder is a board-certified anesthesia provider and retired Army officer who is nationally recognized as an innovative leader in operational readiness. He developed the operational readiness programs of study for Dive Medicine, Military Mountain Medicine Course, Cold Weather Medicine and Avalanche 1 at USU.
